2nd Album
With the great passion I have for the East, especially for spiritual disciplines, including Chinese martial arts that I have practiced for decades, during the journey of life I met a master of Bansuri (transverse bamboo flute). Lorenzo Squillari is a professor at the conservatory of Vicenza where he teaches this ancient instrument, practically in the only Italian faculty of Indology.
His passion and profession goes to the other side of the world to search for varieties of Bamboo to be able to create his wonderful flutes, among other things he created a large Bansuri, I believe he is one of the few in Europe and I would add perhaps the only one in Italy who knows how to play this enormous Bansuri. The album that I produced and curated is dedicated to the mystical Indian flute in fusion with my sounds, an album developed for meditation. But there is a premise to make right away, “the journey” that you are going on with this CD is a sound path that is not aimed at simple relaxation meditation, but rather a deep search for the most hidden emotions.
My experiences in this regard and also when I teach lead me to convey that in order to achieve great successes of inner development you cannot help but take tortuous paths of the psyche, and only with awareness and good control of them can you go up a “level”. I have been fascinated by the flute as a meditative instrument for some time now, now more than ever. With the production of this album I realized that it is one of the most evocative instruments, perhaps because of its “simple” sound form.
If we think carefully, all wind instruments are monophonic, that is, they produce one note at a time, unlike other instruments such as strings, percussion, you can obtain multiple notes at a time (polyphony), as well as chords. This apparent simplicity is a good vibrational vehicle for the ear, influencing the emotional sphere. I also believe that wind instruments become extensions of our respiratory system and therefore become a tool to discipline the mind and body.
Didgeridoo of Australian origin, also used to enter a trance. The bansuri and like all wooden flutes, which are not reeds, also have the characteristic of having more nuances of sound, with the simple movement of the lips on the emission hole including the note holes you will have hisses and variations in intonation with notable harmonies, all of which transmit much more to the composition.
To mention another instrument with this ability and I must dare to say that one of the maximums of expression, is the traditional Japanese straight flute called Shakuhachi. These variations do not exist on modern instruments such as brass instruments, always well-tuned by the grace of the keys.
But as always, beyond the words that constantly influence our actions and enrich morality, there is music, which with its sound spectrum invades our bodies and nourishes our souls, beyond any verbal communication it is the language of the universe. So let yourself be ridden by the sound wave and deprive yourself of your Super Ego at least for a moment.
