I met Seba (Marcello Calasso), during a performance in Florence, more than one year ago; I was at once impressed with his originality and elegance when playing his Gongs and Tams, low, deep vibrations that smote, I would say stormed me. It was like being in front of a cosmic gate leading in boundless spaces. Marcello answered eagerly to my proposal to work together; In few months we met again in his ‘‘Sala Armonica” to start recording. Since our minds went along the same lines, Marcello left me free reins, and once in my studio I allowed my imagination to run free, trying and weawing Seba’s sounds like a cloth, or rather embroidering them into a tapestry with my sinthesizers (both digital and analog), samplers, loops: to find the right involvement I sifted through the whole database of sounds I have gathered during many years. I also added new recordings of flutes, wind bells, tinkerbells, stone clicking, indian drums, and finally my own voice.
While in “Waiting for a Call from the Unknown”, were I expressed the reasons of my interest in the

stars, I just used Samplings from Seba’s Gongs and Tams, “Nebula” is our first real work together, and it starts what we hope will be at least a whole year of work as a pair, heads up into the sky for inspiration. Nebulae are just fluctuating clouds of stardust, debris and gases; mirroring the star light, they appear to the observer heavenly and disqueting at the same time. But this shapeless knots, clouds of molecules, are the cradle of the stars. What can be more fascinating than the birth of a star or a planet from nothing? It’s like some grand Idea, born out of the intertwining of thoughts, that moves into shaping the reality and its consequences can’t be weighted….. this Album, “Nebula” led Me and Marcello in a vessel made of sounds, which moved us both to great enrichment and growth; we hope the same for whoever will listen to it.

Marco Billi, aka Jarguna is one of that kind of people, the ones that leave a mark on you when you meet one. We had from the start a common world of sounds, matching tastes and interests which led us into new and yet untrod paths, while we kept faithfully to the archetipal sonority and spirituality conveyed by instruments such as Gongs and Tams. Maybe Nebula was also our beginning; Ideas, curiosites, inputs, eagerness to work on our mutual interest, quickly set, and become “matter”, into a CD… Nebula is to be listened at sitting still and self centered, just like sitting within a stardust spiral.

Più di un anno fa ho incontrato Seba (Marcello Calasso) ad una manifestazione a Firenze, subito sono stato colpito dalla sua originalità ed eleganza nel presentare i suoi Gong e Tam, quelle vibrazioni basse e profonde hanno colpito, direi di più, invaso il mio intero organismo. Come trovarsi davanti ad un portale cosmico che conduca in spazi senza confini. Marcello si è reso subito disponibile alle mie richieste di collaborazione, infatti in pochi mesi ci siamo ritrovati a registrare nella sua Sala Armonica con la mia attrezzatura. Le idee scorrono in perfetta simbiosi e dopo che Marcello mi ha lasciato carta bianca

ho liberato nel mio studio le fantasie più bizzarre cercando di tramare come un tessuto o meglio ancora un arazzo le sonorità di Seba con i miei strumenti; Sintetizzatori digitali e analogici, Campionatori, Loop, l’archivio di suoni che da anni accumulo sono stati passati al setaccio per poter trovare il giusto coinvolgimento, oltre che registrare flauti, wind bell, vari campanelli, pietre, tamburo indiano, persino la mia voce.

A parte il mio precedente lavoro, dove utilizzo campioni dei Gong e Tams di Seba (Consiglio a chi vorrà farlo di leggere la descrizione dell’Album precedente, “Waiting for a Call from the Unknown”), “Nebula” è il nostro vero incontro ed è il frutto del

nostro progetto di lavorare almeno per quest’anno ispirandosi agli astri. Le nebulose sono masse di polvere stellare, gas e vari detriti che grazie al riflesso delle stelle circostanti producono forme fantasiose, a volte angeliche a volte inquietanti, ma rimangono comunque solo una massa fluttuante. Ma da questa massa informe come le nubi molecolari si formano le stelle; cosa c’è di più affascinante di una manifestazione della materia, come un pianeta, che nasce praticamente dal nulla? Come la fusione di pensieri genera grandi idee e muove la materia a plasmarsi e trasformarsi in un volere che a volte non si sa dove conduce. “Nebula” ci ha condotto in un vascello sonoro che ha arricchito molto me e Marcello, e auguro questo anche per chi ascolterà l’Album.

Marco Billi in arte Jarguna è una di quelle persone che quando le conosci ti rimangono “dentro”. La nostra è stata subito una collaborazione sonora, fatta di ricerca ed interessi comuni, che ci ha portato a percorrere vie sempre più innovative ed originali pur rispettando gli archetipi sonori e la spiritualità che strumenti quali i Gong emettono e trasmettono. Nebula era forse anche il nostro inizio; idee, impulsi, curiosità, interesse, voglia di fare che si sono velocemente concretizzati e “ materializzati “ in un cd …NEBULA da ascoltare restando centrati dentro, proprio come all’interno di una spirale di polvere di stelle…
