Second perfume that is part of a line made and dedicated to Turkey’s famous Liquidambar resin.
Sagalassos is the conception from my dear Turkish collaborator named Baris who made all the mixture and in this case I only added a small part of Liquidambar (pure resin!), but in the right quantities a perfume with a historical character I would say was created!
In fact, this creation takes the name of a very ancient city in the center of Türkiye. The first traces of settlement date back to the 12th millennium BC, while in the 8th millennium BC some settled tribes dedicated to agriculture settled along the shores of Lake Burdur. The first written evidence of the presence of Sagalassos is found in some Hittite tablets dating back to the 14th century BC, which mention the city of Salawassos located in the same region.
Subsequently, it was the Persians who held the territory, later conquered by Alexander the Great and lastly the Attalids. Passing from hand to hand this site has undergone significant changes but above all architectural and cultural influences. The nymphaeum, a beautiful basin now completely rebuilt, and a large amphitheatre are splendid.
But let’s get to the perfume!
The highly valuable qualities of the materials enhanced each other, creating a perfume with mysterious notes.
Aroma: Fresh resinous, floral, hint of Rose that transforms into something more opulent, slightly animalic.
Liquidambar
Well known in past eras, this liquid resin, precisely Liquid Amber, has a history that goes far back in time, reaching up to the priests of ancient Egypt, used as a scented balm, a medicine for the skin and even in the preparation of mummies.
The scientific name of this wonderful tree is:Â Liquidambar orientalis, a plant endemic to southern Turkey, but for some decades the collection of its resin has been banned, due to excessive exploitation it has seriously risked going towards extinction.
Through a process of fermentation and seasoning of its bark, secret recipes passed down only among the families who made this product, the famous Black Storax was created, a sweet, spicy, oriental aroma, now we would say amber. It was burned on coals to spread its aroma in temples, courtyards and in the rooms of nobles or emperors.
For a few years now, Turkey has allowed the extraction of small controlled batches and I am one of the few who has access!
