€2.50 – €35.00Price range: €2.50 through €35.00
Scientific name: Bursera bipinnata
Family: Burseraceae
Common names: Copal gris
Origin: West Mexico
This resin is shrouded in mystery, as I have been trying to determine the species for years. A colleague from Guatemala tells me that it derives from the usual Copal blanco tree, that is, Bursera bipinnata.
However, the difference is that it is harvested from the tree after several months that it has come out, either naturally or by incision, while the Copal blanco is engraved on the stem and within a few days the resin comes out and is collected in typical bins often made from the leaves. by Agave.
Leaving the resin to dry on the tree involves several environmental factors that transform the product from something other than the original, the sun, wind, temperature, oxidizes and matures the waxes inside, combining with the essential oils.
Much appreciated by the Maya for funeral and purification ceremonies.
