Description

Scientific name: Boswellia carterii

Called by numerous names such as Olibanum and Frankincense, they are actually words that determine multiple genres and therefore not entirely correct.

olìbano s. m. [from lat. mediev. olìbanus, adaptam. of the gr. λίβανος, voice of Semitic origin; cfr. Heb. lĕbōnāh]. – 1. Another name, today ant. or poet., of incense: sandalwood and olibanum smoke (D’Annunzio). 2. Oil of o., Yellow or colorless essential oil, with a balsamic smell, obtained by distillation of the dry exudate of some species of boswellia, plants of the burseraceae family.

Resin of Ethiopian origin – Somalian – Oman
is the classic and famous resin used in churches for ceremonial functions, in fact its synonym is also Boswellia sacra.
In reality there are several conflicting opinions about the two “belonging” species, B. sacra and B. carterii, a humble explanation of mine is that the two trees, although practically similar but from different territories, may have undergone small adaptation variations, due to climate and pathogens, the resin being a product to protect and keep wounds disinfected.

Characteristic citrus aroma, it is advisable to pulverize or make the grain as small as possible, so that during the combustion it does not carbonize and emit that unpleasant odor.
