A tree of immense historical and religious significance, its wood was used for furnishings by great noble families, some of whom still choose to be cremated with a pyre made of sandalwood.

The plant is now predominantly cultivated for numerous purposes, especially for the production of essences and wood for burning as incense. In the wild, it is seriously threatened by overconsumption and is much more preferable.

Aroma: Sweetish, creamy, enveloping woody, the classic oriental aroma.
