Description

Scientific name: Boswellia dalzielii
Family: Burseraceae
Common names: Kicers, Cricognimu, Janawi

Distribution – Habitat:
North-West Africa, in the sub-Saharan savannahs.

Description;
Resin never introduced in Italy until 2015, this resin which is always part of the “cousins” of the Olibanum lives in the western sub-Saharan African savannahs.
Working since 2006 in Burkina Faso I have become familiar with this country, generally I export Karkadè and I work approximately with 25/30 villages, I feel satisfied because my request satisfies and remunerates a few hundred people. Unfortunately, not all villages are lucky enough to be able to cultivate Karkadè (Hibiscus sabdariffa), due to a lack of fertile soil or a lack of adequate water supply, however fate has strange and unexpected ways, just in one of these villages we have met a tree locally called Cricognimu which gives a pleasant scented resin.
Double satisfaction! 5 other villages work in collaboration with me to collect the resin, even if we cannot keep up with the requests, since there are not many wild plants to satisfy the required volume, hence the desire to create a seedbed to repopulate these splendid variety.

Aroma: Fruity, slightly spicy, reminiscent of citrus fruits.

Characteristics of the resin: Hard and tends to pulverize during the collection, in fact it is rare to find pieces of dimensions that can be more than 2 cm qubi. After burning the essential oils and waxes, release a residue on the charcoal, like all Boswellias, so it would be advisable to crush with a pestle before the residue releases an unpleasant smell and spoils the splendid aroma that it released before

Ethnobotanical research:
Traditionally the resin is not used to spread aroma but more for medicinal purposes, in fact like all boswellias they have a good antibacterial or bacteriostatic power (slows down the proliferation of bacteria). From this tree a decoction of the leaves is obtained for gastric problems, I consume the seeds extracted in infusion since they have a very sweet and deep flavor.
