Gowe (Cyperus articulatus)

Scientific name: Cyperus articulatus
Family: CYPERACEAE
Habitat: wetlands, along the edges of rivers, distributed in all tropical and sub tropical territories.
Origin of the collection: Mali

More known as Piri-Piri, but I intentionally left the traditional name of where I found this drug, that is in Burkina Faso.
In this territory of North-Western Africa it is used to create incense to burn with charcoal in the houses, its rhizome is reduced to small pieces and mixed with other substances of which also oily perfumes (unfortunately chemical) and sold in the markets, called Barcandè.

Aroma: warm, woody and spicy, some pungent notes, recall the Nagarmotha (scariosuso Cyprus)

Interesting for making stick incense, it gives a deeply earthy, balsamic, spicy aroma, helps to root and bring too detached thoughts to a more … earthly dimension.
