Cade (Juniperus oxycedrus) wood

It’s not actually a true distillate, but a fire-extracted product, known as tar.

That is, pieces of wood are placed inside an iron barrel, covered with earth, and a fire is lit on either side. The heat melts the resin inside the wood, which drips down the barrel, then collected using various techniques.

Its aroma is still similar to birch tar, but Cade offers a slightly less pungent fragrance and slightly sweeter notes, like over-toasted nougat.
